Prayer of the Four Immeasurable Minds

A prayer from Karen, June 2013:

As we search for a meaning of days looking to the one who controls heaven and earth in my human body I feel weak, I don’t understand and I’m not sure every day I want to. I feel I have needs that are not addressed, prayers that are not answered to my joy and a hope that lingers. My true offering and sacrifice today is honesty for a better future in Christ and the world.

J’s prayer, June 2013:

We celebrate the Creating Spirit, through which we share life and breath, and how we are all known as Beloved. May this day, as you come to realize your true self, be a new beginning in living and sharing love.

Evan Lawrence An Adaptation, July 2013:

Grant, O Spirit, thy protection; and in protection, strength; and in strength, understanding; and in understanding, knowledge; and in knowledge, wisdom; and in wisdom, justice; and in justice, the love of it; and in the love of it, the love of all existences; and in that love, the love of Goddess and God and all goodness.

Loftin’s: I like this prayer for peace from the Universal Sufi order, written by Inayat Khan in 1921

Alternatively, Loftin also likes this passage from the medieval Islamic philosopher al-Ghazali: "It is reported that al-Junayd (may god sanctify his heart) was seen in sleep after he had died, and was asked, "What is the news, abu l-Qasim?" He said, "Those expressions were wide of the mark, and those counsels came to nothing. Nothing was of benefit to me except some small prayers I made in the middle of the night."
